Practice Log 4/rehearsal

Well, this week, I believe I have improved my embouchure a bit, and I have hit high E flat, during some of my exercises.  Working on simple songs in the Mel Bay book.

Worked on "Friend of God" as well and had a rehearsal tonight with the worship team.

This was interesting.  I googlemapped the location and I still go lost in the middle of the night. I was able to reach Chris who invited me to play and he was helping me get there amidst saying things like "Oh he's on the wrong side of Coles Ferry. He's in Kentucky somewhere."  

  

Chris was able to guide me to Clearing Manor.  We had the rehearsal in a barn.  Oddly enough, this was a good place to play.  

I did not choke on "Friend of God" as I had thought that I would.  I choked on the other piece(it had a 6 sharp key signature and lots high b's.)

Chris will work with me on Sunday after church to get ready for the next week. 

I must admit; It does feel good to play again!

Hi all

Still practicing. My mom helped me today with it;  I did some amagios and she gave me some tips for more air control.  We went to Sam Ash Music to pick up a mute too.

One of my church members asked me to join them for a practice session this Wednesday evening playing "Friend of God", which is a popular worship song down here.  Mom and I worked on it a bit today.  We'll do it again on Friday evening.  

We should be playing it on Sunday 7/19/09.  

Its a gig(not a paying gig mind you, but still a gig).

 I have been working on it for a few days

Yesterday I practiced and choked on high C, but I reached C# above it.

Today, I went to up to B flat below high C comfortably with the Benge 3c mouthpiece.  The scale work seems to help. 

I am finding that I have to actually concentrate on both my lips and my fingering to get it right which is something I didn't think much about when I was actually playing back in college.  That may have been my problem.

Sometimes you have to sort of "zen" everything else away and concentrate just on lips, fingering and breath control.  That's going to be my focus for awhile. When I start to get more comfortable, I will persue doubletonguing.

Practice Log 1

Did some amagios(not sure how that's spelled) and did them with a little bit more confidence as a result of the aforementioned lip training.

Did a few scales up to top line f major without choking;  The valves seem a little hesitant even after using blue juice;  may need to give the horn a bath this weekend.

New Project/ Trumpet

Hi All

Trying to pick up the horn and get back to playing it again, so I am going to keep a log of it here.  So far, the easiest thing to do without being able to play at the office(which can't be done) is to (1) buzz and (2) hold a pencil in your lips every day for about 4 minutes(later on its less).

"Pops" McLintock seems to recommend this routine everyday to improve the embouchure.

Hi Voxers!

Sorry I haven't posted here in awhile; I've been addicted to FB of late. School is almost over for the kids. I am studying HTML, XHTML and CSS online. 

I am also having some odd recurring dreams that seem to involve turtles.  Maybe its related to the Terry Pratchett book I've been reading.  I'm not sure.

At any rate, I found another Vid I like from the group The Manhatten Transfer.  Cool sound.  Check it out!  Its on the album that came out circa 1990 with the same name.

We can't handle your kid

That's what we really heard on Sunday;  "We can't handle your kid".  People will probably deny it, I am sure, but can they deny it within themselves? 

There is already enough pressure on us from society to "do something" about Josh.  Educators have a hard time too; Josh's teacher and his aid have been wonderful throughout it all.  They all seem to believe in him.  What a pity the church doesn't -- or perhaps they do not believe in themselves or us?

I have been having a hard time sleeping this night.

Josh's Days and hope

Hi All

Sorry I haven't posted in a while on Vox; I have been hooked on FB for awhile.   Here's a bit of what's going on.

Josh's ears are on the mend(we hope), but he has had several bad days this week and he has been very moody for awhile. 

Last week, we took him to see a new doctor who is a father of an aspie child and a member of Faces of Hope.  He took a very methodical approach to Josh's treatment and was up on all the lastest research on Autism/ADHD and other behaviour disorders. 

After a bit of waiting, we now have Josh on Risperdal which is a mood stabilizer which is sometimes used for Bipolar disorder(this also runs in the family as it happens)

We pray that this will work and we pray for Josh as well.
