Sometimes, if you really want to learn something, you learn it by simply doing it. This week, I have felt a little listless, because I have been too busy -- so busy in fact, that I forgot why I was doing what I was doing. Now is the time to reconnect
I am using the old, Lutheran Green Book that my Mom gave me and the old bible that once belonged to my late Father-In-Law
Here is the prayer portion
Almighty and everlasting God, whose will it is to restore all things to your beloved Son, whom you annointed priest forever and king of all creation; Grant that all the people of the earth, now divided by the power of sin, may be united under the glorious and gentle rule of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who live and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
The scripture list
- Psalm 95: 1-7a
- Jeremiah 23, 2-6
- Colossians 1:13-20
- Luke 23:35-43
My daughter and I watched Doctor Who's Face The Raven last night like so many other Whovians in the US did. This one's defining moment, came with the death of Clara Oswald, the companion to both Matt Smith's Doctor and Peter Capaldi's Doctor.
Clara made a tactical error of course, but her intentions were to save Rigsy from certain death. When she realizes that the Doctor can do nothing to help her and sees how he reacts to this situation, she knew that she would have to save.. him from himself. She tells him that this was her choice and makes him promise that when she is gone, he will not seek revenge and he will still be... a Doctor, not a monster. To do otherwise, would dishonor her memory.
Taking from the 3rd scripture:
Col. 2:13 - 14
Who have delivered us from the power of darkness and hath translated us into the kingdom of his Dear Son. In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.
Jesus came down and lived with us and taught in the synagogues, the streets, the mountains and the lakes. He healed the sick, the lame, the blind, the paralyzed, and even raised Lazarus from the power of death itself and when he died, he freed us from the power of sin, which is death; This means we shall live and no power in the universe, no judge on earth, no corporation, no entity of any kind, can alter this. It is a decree by God, sealed by Jesus. It is done.
Forgiveness is assured for all of us. He died for us, so that we don't turn into the monsters, trying to escape the pain of the punishment or trying to inflict harm in retribution for some hurt that was done to us. He died so that we could be free from all of that and be the people we really are.
The message is clear; never forget who you really are by remembering who loves you the most. This is healing.
In that sense, we are all .. Doctors.
